Meet Dr. Kate Emery

Passionate for family medicine and holistic patient care. Enjoys outdoor life, community engagement.

My Approach to Family Medicine

I focus on treating the entire person, not just their illness, by considering their mental, physical, and social needs. I chose family medicine to deeply understand each patient's unique life circumstances and am excited that NBFM lets us connect with and care for the diverse community of WNC.

About Kate Emery, MD

dr. kate emery

Dr. Kate Emery grew up in rural Arkansas where her appreciation for family medicine started early in life. She attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, with plans to foster her passions for both science and community. The combination of one-on-one patient interactions and providing evidence based healthcare to better patient's lives seemed to be the perfect fit.

While attending medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, she constantly found herself worried about the "whole person." Instead of one problem focused visit, she was more inclined to think about the person as an entire entity and consider what social and life circumstances were leading to the presentation. Family medicine was the right specialty to use this curiosity.

In an attempt to broaden horizons, she left Arkansas and came to the area to complete her residency in family medicine at MAHEC (Mountain Area Health Education Center). Although getting to know the community during the COVID pandemic, she was constantly impressed by the compassion and involvement around her.

Now deciding that this will be home, she can't wait to establish long and lasting relationships with her patients. Finding joy in taking care of patients of all ages, North Buncombe Family Medicine is a great fit. She enjoys time outdoors with her husband and American Akita, Mango. You can find her along the parkway or trying a new restaurant in town.
